mother of groom snubbed

Here is my problem: My 28 yr old son's wedding is in April 2012. 5 months ago he informed me that I could not bring a "guest" to his wedding. I feel the mother of the groom should be allowed to invite a guest. His father and I have been divorced for 20 years. It was very bitter, I remarried 11 years ago and we divorced 3 years ago. My second husband and I have remained good friends, we both just grew apart.   In May 2011 I moved three hours away to be with a very special man, and I was told that I could not bring him to the wedding, even though we are living together in a loving, committed relationship.

At first he told me only people who mean something to him are invited to his wedding and Pete, my boyfriend, means nothing to him. Then I found out that Sue, who is friends with her mom and I can bring a guest, and one of my girlfriends who he does not have a special relationship with them can bring her husband, so that explanation does not work.

So I tried to talk to him again, and he was very rude, stubborn and arrogant, and told me he was inviting his father, Pat my second husband and he did not want to have a "third" man there. I think there is more going on here. I have not been asked anything about the wedding. I could not even tell you the color of the dresses because my future daughter in law has kept me out of everything.   My son has one brother and he is "not" in the wedding, his future wife has no siblings. My son has one niece who is 5, she is "not" included, at first she was not allowed because they were not inviting kids, now she can come since my other son asked again to bring her since he is coming from Virginia and needs to bring his daughter.

I feel as though my son has been kidnapped by aliens, because this is not the loving, kind son I raised. Not only did he tell me I could not bring a guest, his told our relationship has been different for 2 years. (That was when I told him he had to start paying his own student loans $150.00/mo.) He is now 28, drives a BMW (given to him by his in laws), his "future" mother in law bought them a condo, I was working two jobs, one income, at 50yrs old, time for him to "step up".   He also told me that night that I treated Pat like sh*t for ten years and then moved to Vermont to raise another family. I did move to Vermont, I raised my sons they are 24, and 28, I can do as I want now, my life does not affect them in anyway.    I am contemplating not going to the wedding because I feel my son is ashamed of my life choices, which I am not. I have always put my children first. I raised them, helped them get through college alone without their father, was there for everything they did good or bad, and taught my children respect. I do not feel my son is respecting me as his mother.   What do you think?

wedding invitation etiquette

we just sent out our wedding invitations. We realized after we sent them out that we forgot to put a stamp on the inside return envelope. we understand that this is standard etiquette to provide one. we thought about getting note cards printed saying "oops, guess what we forgot" and send them to our guests along with a stamp. Some people have told us to forget about it. any soultions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Kraig & Tiffany's November 11, 2011 California Wedding

What an honor to be able to document KRAIG & TIFFANY'S November 11, 2011 wedding in Fresno, CA.

Kraig & Tiffany planned their destination wedding in Fresno (long distance) from their home in Alaska.

Everything turned out wonderfully under the care of their chosen wedding planning consultant (Weddings By Cassandra ~ 559-474-7206).

The couple chose to add some very personal and unique touches to their wedding as you will see in the photos below.

Just to mention a few of unique touches that really stood out:

1. Their wedding favors were truffles in personalized boxes for each guest, with each box having the couple's thumb prints overlapping each other. You can't get much more personalized than that!

2. The couple chose to commemorate their special day by encasing a bottle of wine in special keepsake wooden box (to be opened and drank on their 1 year anniversary). The box had the following words written on top: "May Our Love Be Like Good Wine, Grow Stronger As It Grows Older." - Old English Toast

3. Rather than simply having their guests sign a traditional guest book, the couple had their guests, stamp their thumb print on a drawn tree (see photos below), and sign their name next to their thumb print. The result is a lasting Tree/Record of the couple's beloved guests. LOVE THIS IDEA!!

So Youre Planning an Outdoor Wedding! Things You Need To Know.

The best advice I can give you is to test your ideas in the actual location under realistic conditions to eliminate unpleasant surprises. Work with an experience coach or wedding consultant if you can, and then keep in mind the following things:

1. THE WIND

Wind can affect the temperature, making it hotter or colder; the bridesmaids dresses; everyones hair; and whether the ceremony can be heard. Test beforehand; it can be as simple as moving the tables around a corner, or across the park to a more sheltered area.

Plan decorations and tablecloths you can anchor attractively; choose weighted fabrics for the attendants; warn them about the hair thing; and consider the need for a souns system and mike clips. If you're renting a tent, make sure its wind-worthy.

2. THE COMFORT OF YOUR GUESTS.

Okay, if youre getting married in San Diego you may hit a long spell of perfect weather, but failing that, your event may be hotter, wetter, or colder than many guests would prefer.

If youre having a lot of out-of-towners, particularly, include information about the weather possibilities on an insert with the invitation and accommodation recommendations. (I went to one in Dallas in July; 111 degrees that day, and boy were the people from Colorado and La Jolla dressed wrong!)

If its hot, provide iced bottles of water when they arrive, hand fans, a tent with fans.

If its chilly, tent, warmers, a hot beverage when they arrive, lap blankets, portable heaters.

3. NOTHING WILL HELP IF IT POURS DOWN RAIN. YOU MUST HAVE A PLAN B.

4. HOW TOUGH ARE YOU?

Come on now, if youre at all the fussy type, or prone to nerves, this simply isnt for you. Youll have to manage your hair outside, for heaven's sake.

5. THE CALL OF THE WILD.

Inclement weather or even just ordinary ocean waves and bird calls can wreak havoc with still photographs and videos alike. I recall an amateur wedding video where most of the sound was the wind whistling around. There may also be a fountain or waterfall, dogs barking, kids screaming, birds chirping.

6. DECORATIONS

I've seen even cloth tablecloths blow in the wind, turning over glasses, candles and centerieces. Wind, bird poop, the shades of night falling ... Be xtremely realistic when planning your decorations. Actually test them outdoors.

7. NATURE RED IN TOOTH AND CLAW.

Its from a poem, okay, but thats where youre going to be. Dont fantasize about how romantic the place is; go take a look. Think realistically about beer bottles and cans on the beach; getting the lawn mowed and weeded; planting seasonal flowers; bugs, flies, snakes and spiders; the sounds of barking dogs and (uninvited) children, or, for that matter these days, teen drugs dealers in the park.

Have a visit with your eyes open. Then do what you need to do, or resolve its good enough and dont worry. The world of nature isnt going to shut down just because its your wedding.

8. SAFETY ... ALL AGES

Youre in love. Youre planning your big day. However, you must limit the things you have to worry about if you're going to enjoy yourself. A celebration in a park by a lake would be nice, or by the pool at your aunts mansion, or even at the beach, but in actuality, if there are going to be children there, and drinking theres also going to be the chance for a real tragedy.

Which brings up all ages will likely be there, and must be thought of. Can you really picture your great-grandmother standing in the surf with her hair blowing, stepping over man-o-wars while picking sand out of her teeth for long? Can the kiddos go that long without a restroom? Many people cant stand for a long time; others need protection from extreme heat and cold.

9. THE FOOD.

Can you say "health department?" Mayonnaise (and food items with that as an ingredient) cant sit out in the hot sun for more than an hour or so. Avoid perishable dishes. Wind can make it hard to get the grill lit. Ice cream wont do when its 90 degrees outside, nor will hot hors deouvres last long when its 50 degrees outside.

10. THE SUN, THE MOON AND THE STARS.

Yes, he promised you that and youll be promising it to your guests, one way or another. Keep in mind the sun moves through the sky, and plan your event (and the photographs) accordingly. One of the most beautiful weddings I went to was planned at a hillside lodge, with we guests arriving just as the sun was setting.

Homemade Chocolate Wedding Favors - Easier Than You Think!

Crafting your own homemade chocolate wedding favors has become, in many circles, an integral part of the wedding planning process. For many this is a wonderful option for bridal shower favors, but homemade chocolate wedding favors are equally great for the wedding itself.

Regardless of when and where you make use of your homemade chocolate favors, the time spent making them is an event that the bride and her bridesmaids can look back on as a fun evening of laughter for years to come. It can be a wonderful time of crafting where the music was playing, the chocolate was plentiful, and the laughter was nearly endless.

But what options do you have if you want to create (or at least collect) your own chocolate wedding favors without giving in to the exhausted standby of Jordan Almonds wrapped in a sheer piece of organza tied closed with a ribbon?

One of the most popular options, though rarely attempted, is homemade truffles. These sinfully delicious treats are bound to please your guests. Nearly everyone loves the sinfully rich indulgence of truffles, but few realize how accessible recipes are - and they are really not that difficult to make for someone who knows their way around a kitchen.

As a result your guests might wonder if they had stumbled into Rachel Ray's wedding when they find they will be ending the wedding dinner with a homemade chocolate truffle. Present it as a wedding favor in any number of favor packaging options to match the decor of your wedding and they will be sure of it.

Another even simpler option, with the help of your local craft store, is the molding of chocolates. With a superior chocolate, some candy colors, a double boiler, candy molds, and a little bit of creativity you can create fun bite size candies that fit your wedding theme. For example, if you are having a Hawaiian themed wedding you could make orchid shaped chocolates in the colors of your wedding. Or perhaps, if you could find a mold, you could create chocolates in the shape of a hula dancer... or sea turtles... or palm trees. The possibilities in molding you own homemade chocolate wedding favors are nearly endless.

Fortunately there are plenty of options within the homemade chocolate wedding favor realm that lend themselves beautifully to such an endeavor. For example, chocolate covered strawberries, raspberries, mango, or any one of a number of other fruits are always a hit and once again easy to do with the help of your local craft store. Or if your circle loves it their coffee, why not try creating chocolate covered coffee beans? Fill a chest favor box with the treats and call it good, or you can intermingle them with an assortment of truffles and decorative molded chocolates in a clear Hexagon Favor Box. Or perhaps even choose some personalized ribbon and use it to adorn your hand crafted gift.

Chocolates and other edibles are not something you can make months in advance like a woodworker would be able to do with trivets or wooden puzzles they planned to present as wedding favors, but neither should you wait until the last moment. Depending on which recipe you use, chocolates will keep for a few days in a refrigerator and in some cases will last for as long as a month in the freezer so plan ahead. The experience of creating homemade chocolate wedding favors at the same time as keeping company with their closest girlfriends is one most brides treasure for a lifetime.
